Scheduling around employee availability can be one of the greatest burdens of scheduling if it's required. Work Schedule Dot Net takes the hassle out of it by facilitating communication concerning the employee's availability. No more need to deal with everyone telling you when they are and aren't available to work in scattered conversations and notes. You can keep the information centralized in our availability area. In addition you can require that your employees indicate their availability online. When they login to their WSDN accounts, they have access to a very simple availability editor that allows them to easily add, change, or remove blocks of time for which they are either available or unavailable. Then you can schedule around those times using the automation features. Work Schedule Dot Net can make sure no one gets scheduled when they are not available to work. It takes the headache out of remembering who's available and eliminates miscommunication because each employee enters their own information directly into WSDN.

Typical Weeks vs. Override Weeks

Employees can set up a one week typical availability profile, and then a separate week's profile for any future week where their availability varies from the usual, which is called overriding the week. Overriding a week can be done easily by the employee, by choosing the week to override and clicking a box. Then they just adjust their time blocks from the default typical week. If they don't override a week it is assumed that their availability is typical.

Available vs. Unavailable

When you first set up your WSDN account, you can choose one of two ways to schedule around employee availability:

Employees indicate when they are unavailable: You would use this method if the employees are generally available but have a few times during the week when they simply can't work. This method allows the employee to just add the times they are unavailable, and we assume they are available all other times.

Employees indicate when they are available: You would use this method if the employees only have specific times when they are available. This method allows the employee to just add the times they are available, and we assume they are unavailable all other times.

Employee Preference

In this same employee availability area, if permitted by the manager, the employee can also indicate a preference for certain times. The employee could state a preference to work at a certain time or a preference not to work at a certain time (but indicating he/she is still available if needed). Work Schedule Dot Net can take this into consideration in it's decision making, when the employee preference rule is added to the list of rules.
